5 Point Environmental Agenda Meeting

A meeting was organized with the dedicated volunteers of Sampurna which aimed to discuss and promote the implementation of a new initiative called the 5-Point Environmental Agenda. Dr. Shobha Vijender, Founder Sampurna addressed the volunteers and emphasized the importance of actively participating in this initiative to promote eco-friendly practices in housing societies. The agenda focused on five key areas: solar panels, rainwater harvesting, segregation of garbage, composting, and the use of cotton bags. These initiatives have significant environmental benefits and shall contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.

Dr. Shobha commenced the meeting by expressing gratitude to all the volunteers for their dedication and commitment towards Sampurna and stressed the role of every volunteer. She further elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of each volunteer in implementing the 5-Point Environment Agenda and on the need for effective communication and engagement with housing society members to promote and implement eco-friendly practices. Each volunteer was encouraged to take ownership of specific tasks and act as an ambassador for the cause within their communities. She requested each volunteer to provide the names of their society along with ten other societies where the initiative could be introduced. This information would facilitate further engagement with housing society members and ensure the widespread implementation of the agenda. Furthermore, in order to raise awareness and encourage the implementation of these environmental practices within housing societies, Dr. Shobha Vijender announced that Sampurna will be organizing a competition that will span over six months. The competition shall primarily aim to recognize and reward societies that successfully adopt and implement the five-point environmental agenda.

The 5 Point Environment Agenda mainly includes:

Solar Panel:
One of the components of the agenda is focused on the installation of solar panels in housing societies. The benefits of solar energy, such as reduced dependence on fossil fuels and cost savings was highlighted during the meeting. Volunteers were encouraged to collaborate with housing society members, raise awareness about solar energy, and facilitate the installation process by connecting them with relevant resources.

Rainwater Harvesting:
Rainwater harvesting was discussed as an essential practice to conserve water resources. During the discussion emphasis was laid on the need to educate society members about the benefits of rainwater harvesting and its impact on reducing water scarcity. Volunteers were encouraged guide and encourage housing societies in implementing rainwater harvesting systems.

Segregation of Garbage
The third component of the agenda focused on waste management through the segregation of garbage at homes. Emphasis was laid on the benefits of waste segregation and how it helps to reduce the burden on landfills and enable effective recycling. Volunteers were encouraged to spread awareness regarding segregation of garbage on a household level.

Composting:
Dr. Shobha during the meeting highlighted the significance of composting as an eco-friendly alternative for waste management. Volunteers were encouraged to educate housing society members about composting techniques, provide guidance, and facilitate the establishment of composting units within the societies.

Use of  Cotton Bags:
The final component of the agenda focused on reducing plastic waste by promoting the use of cotton bags. Dr. Shobha Vijender focused on the detrimental impact of plastic bags on the environment and advocated for the adoption of reusable cotton bags. Volunteers were tasked with organizing awareness drives, distributing cotton bags, and encouraging society members to embrace this eco-friendly alternative.
